THE REAL QUESTION
if yes,
then do you think if you never saw any ';idea of beauty';, would you still considered yourself beautiful?Do you think the media influenced our perception on beauty?
It might have influenced others but not mine. I don't find plastic surgery / botox, etc, attractive at all. I love natural beauty and can't stand women that wear ridiculous amounts of make up to hide their real beauty.
If I never saw any 'idea of beauty' I think my perception of beauty would remain the same.Do you think the media influenced our perception on beauty?
Yes, the media and the modeling/movie industry has set the standards for what's beautiful, and what's not. America is obssessed with youth and beauty, and this is reflected in almost every modern tv-show currently on the air. You can ask the Euros to use two words to describe Americans, and most of them will say superficial and materialistic. If physical appearance were not given so much hype, I think many more people would think themselves to be beautiful.
i think yes. beauty comes from within and i'm not just a 40 year old fuddy duddy. i had this conversation with my husband and we talked about what women like. of course he thinks it's penis, body, wallet, etc.
but as i thought about the guys i know, one has been in gq, some are gray, some have beer bellies, many are body builders, i know all kinds. now who turns me on? well the gorgeous one is like a brother and ewwwww to kiss him? the bodybuilders are from my gym and some are fun to look at. the bottom line was personality. really. funny guys and intelligent guys topped the list. i can get used to handsome. funny, smart guys aren't usually tiresome. who gets tired of laughing and having a good time, anyway? and i'm sorry, but i just recently decided i was attracted to larry the cable guy. and i've alwasys had a secret crush on michael chiklis. and for some reason, the tom cruise i've always felt so sexy about, just seems kind of dorky. not george clooney, though. very cool and sexy.
so i wouldn't think i'm beautiful because i'm so witchy lately. i'm trying to work on it. but i feel very beautiful when i'm happy and laughing.
I agree with Sean B.
yes and no. Media does have an impact on how we see ourselves, but only some of us are so impressionable and dim to define ourselves by what we see on tv and magazines.
I consider myself to be beautiful because I am just happy with who I am. I like my general appearance and I like keeping things natural but alluring at the same time. The media disillusions the world by manipulating models true beauty in pictures and airbrushing everything so we can fall for this ideal and feel bad about ourselves and BUY THEIR BEAUTY PRODUCTS because advertisers want to make money.
Even with the false advertising and media influence on our culture, I still consider myself to be beautiful because I am natural and I am not airbrushed. I don't need software to hide my imperfections and I don't need to put on pounds of makeup to feel better about myself. I know that I am beautiful and full of spirit and no disillusioning advertising campaign can take my confidence away from me.

Ofelia.
sure the media puts it out there %26amp; we eat it up! Could we not see these beautiful people %26amp; say wow I wish...........but understand its not to be for all of us to be those folks. I know its human nature to want to acheive those legs like Tyra %26amp; face like Cienna etc.. but when you get older you become more complacent with what DNA %26amp; God gave you. Be thankful that you have a brain. Some folks dont have that due to birth defect.
